How To Wash and Maintain T Shirt Transfer Paper

Video Transcript

Okay, in this very short video, we are going to talk about the washing of our T-shirts, when they are printed with our Inkjets Transfer Paper.  The photo paper direct transfer paper is very, very durable and it relies a lot on you washing it correctly in the washing machine.

So here is a printed image, when you wash it, we recommend you turn it inside out, it rubs less against the image and it will make it a lot more durable.  So, turn it inside out, stick it in the washing machine, and make sure you select a 40 degree wash, 40 degree wash with a full spin cycle, don’t use acrylics, don’t use woolens, woolen programs, or delicate programs, it has to be either a cotton or a fast wash at 30 or 40 degrees, with a full spin cycle.  A full spin cycle is very important, if you leave the T-shirt soaking, in your washing machine, it will affect the image.  It needs to be washed properly like anything else, with a full spin cycle, and if you use these guidelines, your T-shirt will last for many, many washes in years to come.

Once your T-shirt is washed, and you’d like to iron it, we again recommend you turn it inside out, never iron on an exposed image, because the heat of the iron will start reacting again with the transfer, and you are going to create a mess and shorten the lifespan of the image that you have printed on the shirt.  So turn it inside out, take your iron, you can use steam, you can use a high temperature if you want, and iron away.

Once you are finished, you can turn the T-shirt the right way around, and if it’s faded a little bit or a few washes down the line, you can always also freshen it up.  And you freshen it up by using the silicon sheets.  So try and keep the silicon sheets that you got with the transfers, try not to throw it away, because of it’s usage for later on, if you put it on the exposed image and iron it, it will freshen it up, make it a little bit brighter, little bit more durable and lengthen the, the life of the shirt, of the image on the shirt.  So, remember, wash it inside out, iron inside out, it gives you, a long, long time of wear and many washes in the washing machine.

    Hi,

I recently made a few T-shirts with light transfer paper.
The image came out perfectly and the garment was washed inside out.
When the garment dried on the maiden it seemed to have cracked and distorted the image.

I was wondering what the best transfer paper is to use and how i go about finding a solution to above issue on cracked images on the garment after the garment has dried.

    Thank you

    Katie

      Hi Katie,

It should not happen. This can occur due to Low heat and no fixing with the silicon. Common errors when using transfer paper is doing it on an Ironing board which reduces the heat applied to the transfer. What surface did you use?

    Hi,

It the item that’s got the heat transfer on can’t be turned inside out would you recommend putting it inside a pillow case for washing?
